Applying for Australian Visa

Many Filipinos have been dreaming of going abroad to work. It is not unknown to us that employment rate in the Philippines is unequal to the many students who graduated in famous colleges and universities. Sometimes, I even asked myself why are people even bothering to study for how many years just finding themselves unemployed. Because of the insufficiency of jobs in the Philippines, many of our fellow ‘kababayans’ choose to work abroad, away from their families. The lack of jobs is not only the sole reason why others choose to work in other countries; it is also because of the low salary and compensation they are getting. It is ironic to think that Filipinos who are known for having close family ties are also the ones who are breaking them because they need a high paying job in order to feed their families.
As a Filipino and as a fresh graduate student, I realized how hard it was to find a job in our country. Then it suddenly hit me that even if I hold a diploma or a degree, it is still not easy to get hired and earn a high salary. What more the other graduates like me. It is even worst to think that there are also people who can’t afford to finish studying. What will become of them? If not applying for a BPO company, or for a call centre, everyone resorts to working abroad.
Just by looking at the internet, you can find several jobs available abroad. For example in Australia, they are currently offering jobs for nurses, accountants, engineers, teachers, information technologists and many more. Just with one click of your fingertips, applying for a job online is as easy as you can imagine. Other jobs available in Australia are welders, masons, plumbers, electrician, carpenters, construction workers and other blue collared jobs. It is said that the Australian Embassy prefer Filipinos to work at their country and fill the shortage of workers in the construction industry because Filipinos are hard working, easy to get along with, fast learners and have a good command in English be it in written or verbal form. Because Australia is ranked as the thirteenth largest economy in the world, many job opportunities became open to many Filipinos. But even before going to Australia, one must go through a series of process for applying a work visa.
First and foremost, you have to complete all the necessary documents needed for applying a visa. You must obtain a passport and a birth certificate as proof of your identity and nationality. You should also show proof of adequate funds such as bank statements, show money, credit card documents and payslip. This is to make sure that you have sufficient money to fund your trip going to their country and returning to your home country. If you are planning to work in Australia, because there are varieties of visas available like working visa, tourist visa and the like, you should show a certificate of employment from your agency or employer or from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration to prove that you will not be a illegal immigrant or ‘tnt.’ The things listed above are just the basic requirements for applying a visa.
For those who are interested to work in Australia, a Working Holiday Visa is the most common work visa in Australia. The visa is only good for 12 months starting from the day you arrived. With a working holiday visa, you can do work for six months or any kind of temporary employment. However, this kind of visa applies only to people age 18 – 30 years old. Another type of visa is the Temporary Business Long Stay Visa which enables skilled workers to work temporarily in the country as long as they are sponsored by the employer. Meanwhile, the tourist visa is available for those who wanted to visit Australia for recreation purposes or for studying for less than three months.
These are only but few visas available in Australia, others include Skilled Independent Visa, Skilled Regional Sponsored Visa, Employer Nomination Scheme and Work and Holiday Visa. But then again, just like applying for any other visas, the country requires anyone who is interested to apply for any working visa to take the Free Work Visa Eligibility Assessment. This is to check the eligibility of the person to apply for a Work Visa in Australia as designed and set by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship. For more information about the types of Visa and how to apply, visit the website of Australian Embassy at www.philippines.embassy.gov.au.
Aside from applying for a visa, what matters most is the work you will do in the country, the safety and security of the person applying for a visa – make sure that the employer or agency is legal, and that all the necessary requirements and documents are prepared.
